Liés par leur amitié et par les oliviers qu’ils ont dû laisser derrière eux, deux amis syriens en exil dévoilent les mécanismes de la violence qu’ils ont vécue, de la dictature à la démocratie. Lorsque l’un d’eux retourne dans son pays après la chute d’Assad pour filmer la renaissance de la Syrie, sa caméra capture un nouveau cycle de violence – tandis que leur affection mutuelle perdure comme un acte de résistance.

“For me, queerness is not limited to identity or desire; it is a way of looking. It is a refusal of the hierarchies that determine which bodies deserve intimacy, which gestures are permitted, and which images become imaginable. I chose to work with two Arab men because their bodies have become some of the most politicized and dehumanized images of our time. They are repeatedly framed through war, migration, fear, and violence. I wanted to reclaim another image from within that reality - not by denying violence, but by allowing tenderness to become equally visible.”

Showing a victim’s body was never an image I sought. Instead, when violence became overwhelming, the film turned toward breath, duration, touch, silence, and the fragile gestures that continue to affirm life. The camera became careful, hesitant, and deeply aware of its own responsibility.”
